ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

OVERVIEW

The Department of Electrical And Electronics Engineering was started in the year 2012. The annual sanctioned intake of B.Tech program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is 30. The department is armed with excellent infrastructural facilities and fully-fledged laboratories; the department is at par with any other premier institution. The department is lead by a team of energetic, dedicated and experienced teachers educated from reputed institutions.

The entire team aims at moulding Electrical and Electronics Engineers with logical thinking and problem solving ability as well individuals who are globally competent, technically skilled and socially committed, thereby making them fully efficient techical leaders.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)

  • Analyze, plan, design and develop innovative electronic products.
  • Apply the knowledge acquired in Electronics and Communication Engineering to solve social relevant problems and to pursue further research in this trade
  • Indulge in continuous learning for career enhancement to adapt with changing professional scenarios.
  • Work with the team, using the technical knowledge attained in order to achieve the project objectives.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)

  • PSO 1: Analyze and design analog & digital circuits and systems for a given specification and application
  • PSO 2:Design and implement hardware – software co-designs for embedded systems, signal processing and communication
  • PSO 3:Familiarize modern design tools and simulation software to ease the implementation of real time systems.
  • PSO 4: Exhibit ethics, team work and leadership in their profession and adapt to current trends by maintaining a zest for higher studies.

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

Dr. Shaniba  Asmi. P completed PhD at Karpagam Academy of Higher Education, Coimbatore, and M.Tech  at  National Institute of Technology, Calicut .She has 21 years of teaching experienceFACILITIESThe department has got very good Infrastructural facilities which Includes full fledged laboratories and a library with an extensive collection of Books and Journals. The laboratories are being used by the students for the practical session in their regular academic curriculum and for research work.ELECTRICAL WORKSHOPThis lab helps the students to familiarize with different type of switches, cables, protective circuits and other accessories used electrical wiring. They also get the basics of wiring simple lighting circuitsand the use of measuring devices like ammeter, voltmeter, wattmeter, energy meter etc.

Equipments    :   Wiring Boards, Wiring accessories, Megger, Winding machine, Wattmeter, Energy meter, CRO etc.

CIRCUITS AND MEASUREMENTS LAB

This lab helps the students to verify the DC network theorems, to analyze RLC circuits, to develop measurement system for various electrical circuits and to use different transducers.The students will learn to calibrate and test different types of electrical measuring instruments.

Equipments    :   Wheatstone bridge, Phase shifting transformer, Digital LCR meter, Digital Gauss meter, Hibertz magnetic stand, Digital lux meter, Trivector meter, Flexible Thermo Anemometer, Galvanometers etc.

ELECTRICAL MACHINES LAB-I  

This lab helps the students to study and analyze the working and characteristics various DC machines and transformers.This is lab is being used by both electrical and mechanical students.

Equipments    :   Three phase rectifiers,DC shunt, DC series, DC compound motors,DC shunt motor-Generator set,DC series motor-Generator set, DC compound motor – generator set, 2-point, 3-point, 4-point starters, Tachometers, Tacho generators, single and three phase transformers, Auto transformers- Single phase and Three phase ,Transformer for Scott connection etc.

ELECTRICAL MACHINES LAB-II

This lab helps the students to study about the working and characteristics of different types of Synchronous and Induction Machines. This is lab is being used by both electrical and mechanical students.

Equipments    :  Single phase Induction motor, Three phase induction motor-Squirrel cage and Wound rotor type, Starters-DOL, Star-Delta, Rotor resistance type, Synchronizing Panel, Alternator – Salient Pole and Cylindrical type, Pole changing Motor, VFD etc.

POWER ELECTRONICS AND DRIVES LAB

This lab helps the students to achieve practical knowledge about the design and setup of different power electronic converters and their application in motor control. Simulation of various power electronics converters, AC drives and DC drives are also done in this lab.

Equipments    : MATLAB package, DSO, CRO, Function generators, Modules – Single phase SCR fully controlled converter,DC Chopper Control circuit, DC shunt motor control circuit,AC phase control using SCR,DIAC, TRIAC etc

POWER SYSTEM LAB

This lab helps the students to achieve practical knowledge about the various power system components and operation of power systems, relay setting. Simulation of power system operations which will be helpful in design of power systems are also done in lab.

Equipments    : MATLAB package, Overvoltage relay, overcurrent relay , transformer oil tester, power factor meter, insulators etc.

DEPARTMENT EVENTS

  • Industrial visit at Hydro electric power project at Sabarigiri, Moozhiyar
  • Technical talk on “Electrical supervisor license training & scope of MEP in engineering field” was organized as an activity of Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department Association for the final year students.
